Is a LED Screen in Eastern Europe a Good Investment?
Posted date: 2008/3/23  Read count:2340

Here's two questions about LED screens we received:

First Question: "Do you think Outdoor LED Billboard walls can be profitable investment in countries with lower economic power (i.e. Eastern EU)? […] Some Chinese displays installed here showed as bad investment (weak customer interest)."

Second Question: "When do you think LED display technology will be suitable to substitute citylight static displays (2×1 m). We need to take into consider robustness of display since vandals can reach installations easily, for example?"

These questions are both very interesting and reveal a deeper than average understanding of the technology and the industry.

My answer to the first question is: yes, I believe LED screens can be a profitable investment even in emerging countries. Actually these countries are among the best places for an LED screen.

Infact, usually emerging countries have a strong capitalist attitude that makes advertising a powerful tool. One great example for what I'm saying is the LED screen we installed in the Dominican Republic (a country with very low economic power).

The screen is 14 x 9 meters, it is the biggest of South America and one of the biggest in the world. Our Customer is now selling his advertising spaces not only to advertisers but also to politicians willing to promote themself in sight of the elections.

The weak advertisers interest that you report in Croatia might be due to the low image quality of the screens maybe? One rule of the LED screen is that if you want/can invest too little, you will loose everything. While if you want/can invest a bit more (having good image quality), than your ads will almost sell themself.

Concerning the second question, yes, soon or later the LED screens will replace the citylight displays, but they will never have the same costs… So I think is more correct to think that they will not replace but complement the citylight displays, enlarging the offering.

Vandals will always exist and will always be a problem. LED screens already have a vandal protection system but I think we should consider to put the screen behind a window to better protect from spray and damages.
